Using the Mesh Laundry Bags

As its name suggests, a mesh bag is simply a zip-top net that is made of a flexible and durable meshing. The best quality of the mesh is that it is heat-resistant. At the same time, it allows for water to permeate the bag freely.

With it, your clothes will be just as clean as they would without the bag—but without the clothing murder scene. Mesh laundry bags are a definite win-win because delicate fabrics are preserved and embellishments on these clothes last longer.

First, choose the machine’s gentle or delicate cycle. Place you’re the prepared mesh bags into the washer. Select a cold water temperature to avoid damage. Once the wash cycle is complete, hang your delicates to dry.

Protection of (gentle) fabrics

These types of bags are very useful when washing delicates. The rationale is that they protect the gentle fabrics from being torn or stretched out in the washing machine and the dryer.

Using laundry bags is also very eco-friendly because you wash the bag when you wash your other clothing items, and it doesn’t require any extra care.

Separating clothes

For the simple reason that you can actually throw your socks, shirts, undergarments, athletic wear, and jeans all into the washing machine together doesn’t mean you should. If you want to protect the investment that is your clothing, you should be separating delicates from rougher materials.

These days, there is a nifty little tool that you can use to do a single load of laundry while keeping everything safe. It is called a laundry wash bag or mesh laundry bag.

Delicate items

The mesh washing bag is great for delicate washable items like baby clothes, bras and lingerie, hosiery, lace items and satin items.

Also included are silk clothes, accessories, silk sheets and pillowcase, and sweaters.

Mesh bag sizes

When you do your regular laundry once a week, or perhaps, you do laundry once or twice a week, then a smaller bag will suffice.

Ideally, the 15” x 19”, or the 18” x 24” bags are the ideal sizes for this depending on the size of your items. However, if you run laundry cycles two or three times a month, you’ll need a larger bag like the 20” x 30”, the 24” x 36” bag.

Have you had the misfortune of ripping your stocking or end up with spider web-looking hanging threads through all your other clothes (obviously coming from the stockings)?

Did your machine produce such wash results as misshapen shirts or snags or hole? These things actually can happen. Only this time, they can be preventable with the use of mesh bag.

Taking all conditions, Mesh laundry bags are an inexpensive and helpful laundry tool.

Have your unmentionables in a mesh laundry bag before placing them in the washing machine. This is to avoid stretched straps or having hooks damage other garments in the same load.

Do away with the perennial problem of lost socks by placing socks in mesh laundry bags before washing. This also protects them.

Hand washing

Avoid having to hand-wash certain garments by placing the item in a mesh laundry bag on the ‘hand wash’ cycle using cold water. Be sure to check the care label before trying doing. This may not work with all the garments

Save delicate fabrics from developing snags by placing them in mesh laundry bags before washing.  This is especially true when doing a mixed weight load.

Tips / suggestions

Do not buy wholesale mesh laundry bags with draw strings in them. The strings can easily get wrapped up and tangled. You might have a hard time untangling what the machine has effectively tied into impossible knots, sometimes.

Choose bags with zippers instead. Zippers don’t have anything dangling that may get snagged on itself during the washing process where there is a lot of churning. Be sure to not overfill your bag.  Garments need to be able to move about in the churning water around to get clean.

Two bags in different sizes

Have a couple different sized bags on hand.  You don’t want to throw one small thing into an extra-large bag, and likewise, you don’t want to have to stuff something large into a small bag.

Plus, after you have made a habit to start using the bags, you’ll find that you will end up needing more than one.

Fine washables

The mesh bags will protect these fine washables (delicate items) as they cycle through the wash. These delicate personal items need to be rugged parts of regular clothes that are being washed at the same time.

It is a huge convenience to machine wash (finally) that can save extra money and time your large silk beddings and clothing. The same is true for other delicate fibers as well like table linens, bras, hosiery, lingerie and washable wool.

Non-ordinary clothes

Also included here are embellished clothes and those that have embroidery on them. With the delicate or ‘hand wash’ settings, these items (otherwise one might require dry cleaning or hand washing) can be laundered safely at home.

Using a gentle detergent formulated for fine fabrics and choosing the proper cycle (delicate or hand wash) according to manufacturers’ instructions, would be a better type of washing.

However, we also suggest one additional precaution. This is the one that provides maximum protection: washing your clothing or linen in a mesh laundry bag.

Mesh protection

In terms of cleaning delicate fabrics with the use of today’s washing machines, technology has come a long way. Whether they are front loaders or top loaders, machines these days can offer multiple delicate and hand-wash settings.

Today’s washing machines have come a long way in terms of cleaning delicate items. Whether they’re electronic front loaders or a traditional top loader with a dial control, these machines offer multiple delicate and even hand-wash settings.

Laundry machine agitators

The snag seems to b more on machine’s loaders. All of these typically feature an agitator or the impeller mechanism, which can be rough on fine washables.

Along with being energy efficient and using less water, front loaders are gentler than top loaders because there is no agitator. These machines clean by the forceful tumbling motion of the wash drum.
